THE BREWERY

 Montross Brewery is the quintessential "little village brewery."  Small in size and intimate in setting, the tasting room exudes the quaint charm of the village that captures so many hearts.  Specializing in small batch brewing, the brewers lovingly handcraft each  of their brews. The brewer's mantra here is that beer making is one part manufacturing and one part art.

John made his first adult beverage while serving in the US Army in Operation Desert Storm.  His Arabian barracks brew--like John's army unit--lacked finesse, but accomplished the mission.  In the decade since, John has refined his art.  He previously owned a vineyard and winery in Texas, and has transitioned into brewing craft beers.  He enjoys sailing, running, and painting.

Helle, also known as the great Dane, was the brewery's first hire. Helle hailed from Denmark, but made the Northern Neck her forever home. Sadly, Helle left our earth community in April 2018. She is loved by all who were fortunate to have met her.  May her beautiful  spirit forever shine through the brewery, our actions, and those who met her.

Matt, a recent college grad, started as an intern for John.  The internship didn't last long and he became our second employee.  Since joining the brewery family, he has expanded his role and refined his craft. Matt is dedicated to delivering the finest quality beer to all brewery guests.

Mark, also an avid craft beer lover, showed up one day to brew with John, Matt, and Wayne.  You know that one person, who is the nicest, most caring, and would drop everything to help a friend?  Well, that is Mark. Mark is always there to support the staff and brewery operations.

Megan is a rockstar. You'll see her on Saturdays working in the Pizzeria, watering plants, and pretty much jumping in to help everyone.

Roxanne was born and raised in a small village in Ohio, which she left to live in Washington, DC.  After a weekend outing to Westmoreland State Park, and an exhausting decade with the Peace Corps, she decided to hunker down and call Montross "home." Roxanne has her finger on the pulse of  the brewery to ensure everyone has a quality experience. Her focus is working on the beer garden, which she loves, but has no real experience.  She loves traveling, running, yoga, photography, and all things related to the great outdoors.

Andrea Roberts is a Virginia native living and working in NYC as a User Experience & Visual Designer.  She met John & Rox while working in Washington DC, and the three became friends, even running a marathon together!  She is very excited to be lending her talents to this new venture of theirs.

Wayne, an avid craft beer lover, showed up on our opening day and shortly there after started to brew with John and Matt. Wayne has become an essential and versatile member of the brewery team. From mastering the  ginger ale production to constructing the lagering system, Wayne is our indispensable master of all trades.

Kait grew up near a small town in Pennsylvania, where she spent the majority of her time outdoors. Her love of nature her led her to a career that has allowed her to live in a variety of places over the last five years. Recently, she moved to the area with her boyfriend, Bobby, and has absolutely fell in love with the landscape and atmosphere. She is excited to serve pizza at the brewery and get to know her neighbors. In her spare time she loves to snowboard, mountain bike, hike, participate in conservation activities, and research her family genealogy.
